Orthodontic expansion appliances, or palatal expanders, are orthodontic devices that widen the upper and lower jaw and correct bite issues. It is effectively used in adults and children and has a relatively quick impact, assuming the patient is compliant. There are many expansion appliances, most of which aim to achieve upper jaw widening. Both removable and fixed expansion appliances are available. Some appliances can also move individual groups of teeth.
